Extravagant Eritrea

Eritrea is a moderately small yet exceptionally enthralling province situated in the Horn of Africa with it's ports facing the alluring Red Sea. It has urban and suburban areas and is known to have many scrumptious dishes,  intriguing journeys in history, and some  exhilarating sports.  Holding 6.38 million people, they are a bubbly, welcoming and lovely-to-be-around bunch of people. It is packed with picturesque views, intelligent agriculture and delightful people. In this report you will discover pompous facts about Eritrea's long forgotten history, awesome verities about the sport there and reliable facts about the citizens.

Aksum- An Ancient Kingdom

Eritrea has had a long and successful journey in history. In the early centuries Eritrea was apart of a triumphant civilisation called Aksum, Aksum was the name of a city and a kingdom which is essentially modern-day northern Eritrea (Tigray province) and it's neighbour Ethiopia. Research shows that Aksum was a major naval and trading power from the 1st to the 7th centuries C.E. As a civilization it had a profound impact upon the people of Egypt, southern Arabia, Europe and Asia, all of whom were visitors to its shores, and in some cases were residents. Aksum developed a civilization and empire whose influence, at its height in the 4th and 5th centuries C.E., extended throughout the regions lying south of the Roman Empire, from the fringes of the Sahara in the west, across the Red Sea to the inner Arabian desert in the east. The Aksumites developed Africa's only indigenous written script, Ge'ez. They traded with Egypt, the eastern Mediterranean and Arabia. Despite its power and reputation—it was described by a Persian writer as one of the four greatest powers in the world at the time—very little is known about Aksum. Written scripts existed, but no histories or descriptions have been found to make this African civilization come alive.

Ardent Athletes

Eritrea has always had a passion in sport from the working wannabes to the prosperous professional. In fact football and cycling are the most popular sports in Eritrea. In recent years, Eritrean athletes have also seen increasing success in the international arena.
Cycling has a long tradition in Eritrea and was first introduced during the colonial period. The Tour of Eritrea, a multi-stage cycling event, is held annually since 1946 throughout the country. The national cycling teams of both men and women are ranked first on the African continent, and ranked amongst one of the best cycling nations in the world. The Eritrea national cycling team has experienced a lot of success, winning the African continental cycling championship several years in a row. In 2013, the women's team won the gold medal in the African Continental Cycling Championships for the first time, and for the second time in 2015 and third time in 2019.
Football in Eritrea is related to the sport most popular in this African country. After being under Ethiopian control, Eritrea gained its independence in 1991 and in 1998 the country became a member of FIFA. The Eritrea national football team represents Eritrea in men's international football and it is controlled by the Eritrean National Football Federation. It is nicknamed the Red Sea Boys. It has sadly never qualified for the finals of the FIFA World Cup or the Africa Cup of Nations. Local side Red Sea FC are the main supplier for the national team. The team represents both FIFA and Confederation of African Football.
