Today, we were investigating forces by swinging a bucket of water around in a circular motion. Amazingly, the water stayed in the bucket even though it was upside down. Ask the year 5s to explain what forces they were investigating. #Ivesonessentials #curiosity #scienceinvestigation #forces

In our topic lessons, we have been looking at the lines of longitude and latitude. We also looked at the purpose of these lines and how they can help us to locate. To understand more about how these lines cover our Earth we began creating models.

Next Thursday, it is World Book Day. We have got lots of exciting activities planned. For your homework, I would like you to read for pleasure. This can be any book, magazine or newspaper that you enjoy. I would then like you to write a recommendation for the text that you choose. 

Have a go at the following maths challenge and show Miss Walker for 5 Dojos Zios and Zepts On the planet Vuv there are two sorts of creatures. The Zios have 3 legs and the Zepts have 7 legs. The great planetary explorer Nico, who first discovered the planet, saw a crowd of Zios and Zepts. He managed to see that there was more than one of each kind of creature before they saw him. Suddenly they all rolled over onto their backs and put their legs in the air. He counted 52 legs.  How many Zios and how many Zepts were there?

This week, we have been using the Stop Motion software to create our own alien animations. Take a look at our creations so far; 

We had the pleasure of welcoming some visitors into our classroom. Our visitors were students from China. They shared lots of information about their lives and culture and we were able to ask them lots of questions. They are also going to be returning to help us with our topic about rainforests in the summer term.

Here are some of the Kennings that we created; We looked at when we should us a and when we should use an during our writing process. Can you guess what our Kennings are about? 

We have been focusing on the creation of the characters for our animations. Some of our models are amazing! We can't wait to start making our characters come to life with our computing skills. 

After creating our own Kenning, we started to explore the art of performance. To do this, we started off by watching videos of poetry performances. We then focused on 3 specific areas; tone, pace and actions.  Can you guess what it is? Some amazing actions! What are these actions? Practise makes perfect!

In English, we have been learning how to infer about a characters' thoughts and feelings. We used these skills to become the characters ourselves and respond to questions from our peers.
